What can I do if my parcel status is returned to sender?

If the status of your parcel is "returned to consignor" this may mean that your parcel has been, or is in the process of being returned to sender (RTS).

Depending on the courier, a return can take upto two weeks for domestic parcels and six weeks for parcels sent outside of the UK.

Why are parcels returned to sender?

Parcels can be returned for a number of reasons:

  • Max number of unsuccessful delivery attemps made.
  • Recipient refused delivery.
  • Insufficient address.
  • Prohibited items.
  • Damaged in transit.
  • Missing or incomplete customs documentation.
  • Recipient not collecting from a pickup point within 7 days.

How long does a parcel return take?

International - Outside of the UK

Parcels that are traveling outside of the UK can take anywhere from 2 - 6 weeks to be returned to the sender. The length of time taken to return an international parcel depends on where the parcel was along its journey. The following considerations must be made:

  • Customs processing - Parcels may still have to clear customs before return.
  • Bulk returns - International returns are sometimes processed in bulk.
  • Connections - Parcels are processed through more connection points and depots.

Domestic - Within the UK

Domestic returns are usually processed and delivered within a couple of days but depending on the courier and volumes within the courier network, returns can take up to two weeks as a general rule.
