Sending a Parcel to the Caribbean Guide

02 September 2025 | Editor's Pick | Most Popular | Tips and Guides

With Parcel2Go, sending a parcel to the Caribbean doesn’t have to be stressful.

In this guide, we’ll give advice on what customs documents are required for sending parcels to the Caribbean, how to pack your parcels, and how to find the best parcel delivery quote with Parcel2Go.

What to Know Before You Send a Parcel

One of the most important things to consider before sending an international parcel is that import fees will be payable. The most convenient way to send your parcels is through a ‘Delivery Duty Paid’ (DDP) service. This means that you will pay any taxes due when you book your postage instead of letting your recipient cover the charges when their parcel arrives.

To find a DDP courier, all you need to do is look for the green ‘Pre-Pay Delivery Duties’ flag when you get a quote.

What Customs Documents are Required for Shipping to the Caribbean?

When you’re shipping to the Caribbean, you’ll normally need to include the following documents:

  • Commercial invoice. If you’re a business shipping products internationally, you’ll need to include a commercial invoice. A commercial invoice is a legal agreement between the seller and buyer and allows customs to process your parcel. It gives a detailed description of the goods and the amount due to the business. You’ll need to include commodity codes and your customer’s contact details.

  • A pro-forma invoice. If you’re sending a gift or personal items, you’ll need a pro-forma invoice. You’ll need to include commodity codes and other information, which we’ll guide you through when you book with us.Air Waybill. This forms a contract between the shipper and the carrier. You’ll need to provide both your and your recipient’s details, information about the shipment, and what courier service you’ve chosen.

The paperwork required by different countries can be daunting when you’re sending internationally, but don’t worry! At Parcel2Go, we’ll help you complete everything you need to during the booking process and will send you all the forms you need.

What is Prohibited When Shipping to the Caribbean?

Each Caribbean country will have its own restrictions about what you can and can’t import.

For example, Barbados’ customs office is very strict on the import of fruits, vegetables, and plants to protect their local eco-system, whilst the Dominican Republic prohibits the shipping of statues, sacred paintings, and valuable artefacts over 100 years old.

You can check our list of prohibited items to find out what you’re allowed to send to each Caribbean country.

Packaging & Address Tips for the Caribbean

Your parcel will travel a long way to the Caribbean, so you want to make sure it’s well protected on its journey.

These are our top packaging tips:

Over long distances, you can’t beat a triple-corrugated cardboard box to keep your items safe and secure. New boxes are best if possible.

Choose a box that is a little larger than your item, so it has a bit of space around it. Ideally, you don’t want your item to touch the sides of the box when it’s inside.

Even if your item isn’t fragile, it’s always best to wrap each item individually with plenty of bubble wrap or corrugated paper.

Fill the space around your items with scrunched-up newspaper, packing foam, or bunched-up bubble wrap.

Finally, seal the box with plenty of packing tape. We suggest sealing every edge, and don’t forget the bottom too!

How to Format Caribbean Addresses Correctly

Taking the time to check the proper way to address your parcels to the Caribbean will reduce the risk of your package being delayed.

There are different formats for addresses in the Caribbean depending on what island you’re sending to. For example, Jamaica doesn’t use postcodes, but Kingston has sector codes, which you should include to the right of the town name.

The Universal Postal Union has a helpful guide on how to address a parcel to Jamacia, as well as lots of other Caribbean destinations.

Send a Gift to Someone on a Royal Caribbean Cruise

To send a gift to someone on a Caribbean cruise, you’ll usually be able to place an order through the cruise line’s gift service.

If your loved one is sailing on a Royal Caribbean cruise, you can choose from gifts such as cakes, flowers, or chocolates, which will be delivered on their first day of sailing.

For a more personal touch, you could have a gift sent to their home before they set sail. At Parcel2Go, we deliver to over 180 countries worldwide, and our International Shipping Hub has all the helpful information you’ll need to ensure your gift arrives on time.
