Sending parcels to France can be a great idea if you have friends or family there. Sometimes living abroad can make you feel that you are missing something at home and receiving parcels and mail can really cheer you up.
There are guidelines that you have to follow when sending parcels to any country in Europe and France is no different. Items such as perfumes and other liquids are not allowed so make sure the item you are looking to send is allowed before you send it.
In France, La Poste is the main postal service so your parcel will normally be sent via them. When packing a parcel ready to be sent there are ways to help secure the package and ensure it arrives in one piece. The best way to start is by getting a double-walled box as they are very durable and ideal for larger items.
Whatever you are sending make sure the packaging you choose is suitable for the item and then place the item in the centre of the box, with any excess space in the box you should cushion with bubble wrap or a similar material. This will prevent the item from sliding around when being shipped to France. Making sure the box is tightly sealed with tape is useful but do not use excessive tape as Customs may need to check the package.
It is extremely important not to neglect packing the item correctly even if the box is labelled right.
It may seem an obvious thing to point out but labelling the box clearly is vital. Use uppercase letters to write out the address so there can be no mistake in reading the label. Handwriting is very different in France to the UK and an address can be easily misread so make it obvious where your parcel needs sending.
If there are any sharp edges on the item being sent then make sure they are covered well by appropriate packaging. Ensure all packages are labelled correctly using the right labels such as “Fragile” as these will help to ensure your parcel is handled with care.
