The online auction marketplace is to trial the programme at select Argos stores, whereby eBay users can drop any sold items at their nearest branch to be packaged and delivered by eBay. Should the scheme prove successful, the service is set to be trialled in a further 700 Argos stores.
According to Tanya Lawler, vice president of eBay marketplaces, this service is a “world first”, and “not one that can be easily replicated by other players in the market”.
The first Argos stores expected to take part in the scheme have not yet been named, she said, but revealed that details would be announced soon.
“We’ve created a service that makes it quick for sellers to drop off items so they can focus on growing their businesses and targeting domestic and international buyers, rather than waiting in a line,” she added.
The eBay click and collect service, which was unveiled back in September, has to date surpassed one million sales.
