At last, it seems Amazon has been able to take away some of the iPad’s shine by selling a huge number of Kindle Fires during the Black Friday weekend.
Amazon saw its best ever sales for the Kindle Fire, which can be attributed to reducing the price of its tablet to £99 - making it £30 cheaper than its usual price.
Exact sales figures are yet to be revealed, but Amazon has confirmed that its overall sales beat its previous one-day record by a factor of three.
This news comes on the heels of recently leaked confidential Amazon documents which revealed that Amazon earned £3.4bn in the UK last year, making themselves a profit of £74m – before tax.
£2.91bn was made directly from its website, and the rest came from affiliates such as LoveFilm.
Rise in Popularity of the Kindle & Kindle Fire
Kindle e-readers and Kindle Fires have become increasingly popular, holding the top four spots on the Amazon worldwide best-sellers list since their launch, and since then have gone from strength to strength.
“We’re looking forward to millions of customers opening a new Kindle this holiday season,” said Dave Limp, vice president of the Amazon Kindle business.
